Use the model identifier and Apple’s technical specification page for your configuration. Marketing names alone are not enough when port support, display limits or charging requirements differ.
Power: match the protocol and requirement
Confirm connector type, supported charging protocol, cable power rating and the notebook’s recommended adapter. A charger’s total wattage can be shared across ports.
Docks and external displays
Start with the number and resolution of displays you need, then verify the notebook’s native display support. Check whether a dock relies on additional software and which ports share bandwidth.
External storage
Choose capacity and sustained performance for the actual task. Keep at least one separate backup rather than treating a single external drive as protection.
